Regardless of Friday’s outcome between Bridgeport and Fairmont Senior in the Class AA semifinal prep football playoff game, the Indians have already secured some representation in for the title game in Wheeling Island Stadium Dec. 2.

It was announced Monday that MetroNews will team up with the WVSSAC, to broadcast the Class AA and Class AAA state football title games live on Root Sports, which is Channel 48 on Time Warner Cable locally. The Class A game will be shown Monday, Dec. 5 at 3 p.m.

All three games will have Travis Jones, who works for a MetroNews station at WAJR FM, handling the call. He will be joined by former West Virginia University quarterback Rasheed Marshall who will handle the analysis of the contest.

“I’m really excited, but less excited for myself and more excited about what this means for high school football in West Virginia,” said Jones. “You look around at Pennsylvania, which is a bordering state and their games have aired live in the past on Root Sports.

“This gives high school fans across the state a chance to see the quality of play we have here in West Virginia and since Root Sports can be seen on many satellite carriers, it gives individuals across the country a chance to see as well,” Jones continued. “Our hope is to not only get fans of the final six teams to watch, but fans in general and those fans outside of the state to take a look and see what West Virginia high school football is all about.”

It should be noted that this isn’t Jones’ first WVSSAC rodeo or first time in the booth with Marshall. He’s been there more than once on both occasions.

“I’ve called the Class AA title game on radio for some time now and Rasheed and I have worked together on the Mountain East Conference Thursday night radio and television package for the last two years,” said Jones. “Last year, we actually followed Shepherd to the title game. We work well together and I feel good about our chemistry.”

One thing Jones knows is that he’ll have the benefit of having knowledge of one team – either Fairmont Senior or Bridgeport – that will play in Wheeling Island the weekend starting Dec. 2.

“That will make it a little easier because I’m used to preparing for two teams and that weekend I’ll be preparing for six. Sometimes it’s challenging if a school makes it that may not be in a big media market, but you have opportunity to watch film through online services like Hudl,” said Jones.

For those that want to listen to the game, you can still do so locally on WAJR FM, 103.3. Fred Persinger and Dave Jecklin will handle the call there.
