This Friday, the Bridgeport High School football team will be looking to defend its Class AA state championship as they start the 2014 season with a home-opening contest against Buckhannon-Upshur. And for those wanting to have one of the best seats in the house, a few are still available.

 

The reserved seating section at Wayne Jamison Field will begin its third year for home regular season football games August 29. According to BHS Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Matt DeMotto seats are still available for purchase.

 

“We still have approximately 20 seats that are available for the upcoming season left,” said DeMotto.

 

When the seats were installed prior to the 2012 season, the purpose was to use the funds created by the selling of the seats to go toward the replacement of Jamison Field’s artificial surface. The seats, which cover five home games, are $100 each. The remaining seats can be chosen on a first come basis.

 

“We’ve raised more than $30,000 for the first three years,” DeMotto said. “The really positive thing is that the feedback has been positive and, to date, no one has come to us and complained about them so we think they’re serving their purpose to not only raise funds, but to enhance the experience for those that purchase the seats.”

 

The biggest benefit DeMotto said he’s heard is the convenience factor. In years past, some loyal fans would show up several hours before games to secure their seats. With this, it’s no longer necessary.

 

“You can show up a minute before a game and your seat is there,” said DeMotto. “If the weather is less than favorable, that’s a really good alternative to show up at the last minute.”

 

The seats do not cover any potential home playoff games. The cost of a game ticket is also not included.
