Today's Part of JV Baseball Tourney at Rec Complex Wiped Out; Single Elimination Format Saturday

For those that may have shown up to Bridgeport High School, the Bridgeport Recreation Complex or even Lewis County High School hoping to see some quality baseball action, you may be wondering what happened. Unfortunately, due to Mother Nature, the 4th Annual Junior Varsity Challenge hosted by BHS saw today’s action scrapped.

However, the action will kick off tomorrow. Tournament Director Robert “Bobby” Marra said the games will go on Saturday and, most important, everyone is still competing.

“We’ve had to change the format to a single elimination format and the plans to only play games Saturday at the Recreation Complex have also changed,” said Marra. “We’ll now be using two fields as originally planned at the Rec Complex and also play games at (BHS).”

Although it is a single elimination event, Marra said each team will get a minimum of two games. He said there will be consolation games for those eliminated in their opening game.

Games will start at 9 a.m. on the morning on all three fields. Games will continues to be played on those three locations at 11:15 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and then again with two games at 3:45 p.m. The two games at 3:45 p.m. – both consolation games – will be at the Rec Complex. At 4 p.m., the championship game will be held at Bridgeport High School.

Along with Bridgeport, the rest of the field includes Jefferson, Parkersburg South, Elkins, Brooke, Lewis County, Morgantown, Hampshire, Washington, and Susquehanna Township of Pennsylvania. The cost to attend is $5. The ticket will get you into all the games at any location Saturday.

“All of the team, amazingly enough, are still coming. I honestly thought a few might decide not to come considering there’s only a two-game guarantee,” said Marra. “Plus, you’re looking at some traveling nearly three hours to get here and spending the night. I’m thrilled everyone wanted to still come.”

Concessions will be available at both locations. Click HERE to see the bracket.
