Top 10 Sees Changes, but Bridgeport's Win vs. PHS Doesn't Make Changes in MetroNews Top Five

By Jeff Toquinto on October 14, 2019 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

For the second straight week, Bridgeport find itself right in the middle of the Class AA standings in the latest MetroNews High School Football Power Ratings.

The Indians, now 6-1, are ranked No. 5. The Tribe was ranked in the same spot last week.

BHS did not move up in the poll despite a win against Class AAA Preston. The Indians defeated Preston by a 49-14 score Friday at Wayne Jamison Field.

Bridgeport wasn’t alone in standing pat. The top six teams remained the same with Fairmont Senior staying at the top spot with a 6-0 record after getting a 33-0 road win against Weir.

Bluefield continues to hold down the second spot in the standings that is voted on by members of the statewide media from radio broadcasters to sports writers. The Beavers are 5-1 after a 63-14 victory against PikeView.

Future Bridgeport foe Keyser maintains the third spot. The Golden Tornado is 6-0 and are coming off a bye week. KHS has allowed just seven points all season.

Poca stayed at the No. 4 spot this week. The Dots rolled past Winfield by a 56-21 score on Friday to keep votes in their favor.

No other local teams are ranked in the top 10 of Class AA. However, Lewis County and North Marion – two teams Bridgeport has defeated this year – are both in the “also receiving votes” portion of the poll.

Martinsburg remains No. 1 in Class AAA. In Class A, Doddridge County remains at the top of the standings after topping Gilmer County by a 47-0 score.
