Bridgeport High School’s football team begins practice today and the first game is still several weeks away, but Indian players are already getting preseason recognition. Two members of the Tribe were named to the Gazette-Mail’s Preseason All-State football team that is chosen annually.

BHS also has a member on the second unit.

Named to the first team offense is senior kicker Koby Kiefer. Senior defensive lineman Chapin Murphy was named to the first team on that side of the ball.

Kiefer (5’10, 170), along with being a force on kickoffs and punts, was the Indians second leading scorer. He hit on 8-of-16 field goal attempts, while also connecting on 43 of 46 extra point attempts.

Murphy emerged into a near unstoppable force last year as the season progressed from his defensive end position. Murphy (5’10, 190) finished with 38 tackles last year. He led the team with 5.5 sacks, forced a pair of fumbles and broke up three passes. Murphy also drew several holding calls as teams couldn’t block him.

Another senior was named to the second team. Senior Jimmy Allison (6’4, 295), who emerged as a force at the end of his sophomore year, became a standout along the Indians’ offensive line during his junior season. Allison was one of the reasons the Indians were able to continue with their potent power pistol, run-heavy attack that led the Tribe to the Class AA semifinals.
