Undefeated Bridgeport Remains in Fourth Position in Latest MetroNews 'AAA' High School Football Poll

By Jeff Toquinto on September 28, 2020 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

For the second straight week, Bridgeport knocked off a Class AA top-10 ranked team. And for the second week in a row, Bridgeport remained in the same position in the MetroNews High School Football Power Rankings.

The Indians remained at number four in the Class AAA portion of the poll after toppling Robert C. Byrd 58-21 Friday at Wayne Jamison Field. The win left Bridgeport at 3-0 on the year.

BHS stayed at No. 4 despite the top three teams all having bye weeks. Spring Valley, 2-0, remained a unanimous No. 1, while Martinsburg, 1-1, remained in the second position. Cabell Midland, 2-0, is at No. 3.

Bridgeport is trailed in the top five by future foe Musselman. The Applemen beat Fairmont Senior, the same team the Indians beat in their second game this year, by a 42-21 score at East-West Stadium.

While the Tribe has played a pair of ranked AA teams in their first three games, they will play their first Class AAA foe this coming Friday. The Indians will visit Wood County to battle Parkersburg South.

The Patriots are coming off a 39-0 setback to John Marshall. The game with BHS marks the beginning of a two-game home stand for PSHS.

No other future Class AAA foe is ranked, or in the “also receiving votes” portion of the poll.

Fairmont Senior, 1-2, is ranked No. 6 in this week’s “AA” portion of the poll. RCB, at 3-1, falls to the tenth spot. Past opponent North Marion, 3-1, is ranked No. 8. Liberty, who Bridgeport beat in its opener, is in the “also receiving votes” portion of the poll.

Doddridge County, a 9-8 winner against Ritchie County, maintained the top spot in Class A. The Bulldogs are now 4-0 on the season.
