With Friday's Game at Buckhannon Off due to COVID, Spring Valley to Visit Wayne Jamison Field for Clash with Indians

The good news for Bridgeport High School’s football team was that Harrison County was green in the latest school metrics color-coded COVID-19 map, meaning they were good to play. The bad news is that Friday’s scheduled foe, Buckhannon-Upshur, saw its home county of Upshur Orange.

What the means is the Indians’ scheduled game at the Buccaneers is off for Friday. Because of that, the BHS administration and Coach John Cole had the option to miss a third straight week of action or find a new opponent.

The latter was the decision. And this evening, Bridgeport High School Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Mark Jones was able to confirm that the Indians have found a new opponent to battle at Wayne Jamison Field.

And the opponent is one of the most prominent teams in Class AAA. Spring Valley (3-1) will travel to face Bridgeport (4-0). The Timberwolves, who have advanced to three straight Class AAA state championship games are No. 7 in the latest SSAC ratings. They ended five-time defending state champion Martinsburg's regular-season win streak this year but have also lost to Fairmont Senior, a team Bridgeport defeated in Game 2.

The Indians are currently No. 2 in the SSAC ratings.

Stay tuned to Connect-Bridgeport for a more in-depth preview of the Spring Valley game later in the week.
