ToquiNotes: BHS Football Student-Athletes Accept "Running Man Challenge," Have Fun at Same Time

By Jeff Toquinto on October 01, 2016 from ToquiNotes via Connect-Bridgeport.com

My blog this week has a pretty strong sports tone – and pretty fun tone to it as well. What follows at the bottom of this blog is the Bridgeport High School football team’s version of “The Running Man Challenge.”

For those of you that aren’t sure what that is, it’s a trend – started on social media – that was popularized by a pair of University of Maryland basketball players and Jaylen Brantley and Jared Nickens and started by two teenagers named Kevin Vincent and Jerry Hall. Well, at least that’s what multiple Google searches and articles tell me.

It appears to have started in April and caught fire as spring and summer were in full swing. That was about the time former BHS alum Luke Nesler, the co-founder of impakt Marketing in Morgantown, was putting together the annual Bridgeport High School football introductory video.

Nesler, no stranger to having a little bit of fun with his creative genius, checked to see if the Indians were interested in doing a quick video of “The Running Man Challenge.” Nesler said he had no hesitation and once Coach Josh Nicewarner was fine with it, all was a go.

As for Nicewarner, he said having a good time should be all part of the experience for the student-athlete. And this qualifies.

“In the end, it’s all about having fun. The formula is pretty simple. If you’re always losing and having fun, you’re probably doing things the wrong way. If you’re winning and having fun, chances are you’re playing better, the coaches aren’t yelling a lot and those practices and long days don’t seem as long,” said Nicewarner. “When you do something like this it actually helps reach team goals. You see a lot of teams here doing creative things and this certainly is one of them.”

Without further ado, here’s the video. I figured video instead of verbal would be a break for those that frequent this blog.

Enjoy.
