Big Numbers Registered for Second Annual City of Bridgeport Community Yard Sale; Maps Now Available

It’s still a week and a half away, but for those individuals who want to get a jump on the City of Bridgeport’s Second Community Yard Sale can do just that. Earlier this week, City Clerk Andrea Kerr announced that the community maps showing where participating yard sales will be out are now at city facilities for pickup.

“We’re off to a good start,” said Kerr. “We already have more than 50 households registered and I expect there will be more.”

Kerr said not only will there likely be more registered yard sales, that there will be dozens of individuals that have sales that won’t register. She said she’s anticipating about 100 or more households to take part.

“Right now, I think we’re about the same pace as we were at last year,” said Kerr. “I really think with the maps out and the advertising we’re doing this year that it could really pick up.”

The advertising this year is something that is new, but familiar to those on the yard sale circuit. The city has been placing their own yard sale signs throughout the community letting everyone know festivities are set for August 6 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

As previously mentioned, individuals can start earlier or later and finish earlier or later. Those times are the times the city will recognize as the official start and end.

“We’ll print out a second batch of maps, probably on Monday that will include additional individuals that register,” said Kerr. “After that, you won’t have your household included on the maps that are printed out and being distributed publicly.”

However, Kerr said she will continue to add names to the list. And for those going to the city’s Web site, they can print their own copy that will include households that register after this coming Monday.

Along with the yard sale signs, which Kerr enlisted the help of her daughters Audrey and Katelyn to help post, there is another new addition this year. On the back of the map is a list of places to dine in the city limits.

“Since this is an all-day event and we’re hoping for visitors to visit our city and stay for a large part of the day, we thought for those unfamiliar with the local dining options that this would help,” said Kerr.

One thing that won’t take place this year is a location for individuals outside the city limits to set up and sale their wares. Kerr said that the idea will again be revisited next year.
