Bridgeport Listed Among Top 5 Best Places for Home Ownership in State

A consumer-based Web site that focuses on managing money and other issues has released its list of “Best Places for Homeownership in West Virginia.” And once again, Bridgeport has found itself ranked high on the list.

Although the comments made by NerdWallet in describing Bridgeport are not entirely on the money, the rankings are based on three measureable characteristics. 1. Are homes available? 2. Can you afford to live there? 3. Is the area growing?

When the figures were put together, Bridgeport finished in the top five. In fact, Bridgeport finished number five behind top-ranked Sissonville, Nitro, Hurricane and Cheat Lake.

“I think it’s fantastic and it’s not really surprising considering the growth in our area on a residential and commercial front. You look at areas such as White Oaks and Charles Pointe that are seeing explosive growth,” said Bridgeport City Clerk Andrea Kerr. “We also have one of the best school systems in the state and that has helped make people want to live in our community. Plus, there are so many things to do on the sports front and the social front that made living here a desirable thing.”

It should be noted that it calls Bridgeport “home to the Pete Dye Golf Club.” Although often said as located in Bridgeport, Pete Dye is just outside the corporate limits of the city. It also recognizes the Benedum Festival, which they said is done in honor of Bridgeport’s founder, which is also incorrect. However, the rankings are another positive feather in the city’s cap, Kerr said.
