Construction of New CVB Building in Bridgeport Takes Step Forward as Consultant Chosen for Work

By Jeff Toquinto on November 06, 2015 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The process to construct a new building that will eventually house the Greater Bridgeport Convention & Visitors Bureau and perhaps other tenants took another step forward recently. CVB Board of Directors President Drew Pomeroy announced that not only have consultant interviews been completed, but that a consultant has been chosen.

“The Thrasher Group has been selected and we’re currently working with them on a contract to hopefully get started soon,” said Pomeroy. “The only thing left on our end is that we have to officially negotiate the contract before moving ahead.”

Other details were not available. The reason for that stems from the fact that the contract negotiation is currently in the works. Pomeroy said the interviews were done in October and the decision by members of the CVB to go with Thrasher was made late last month.

“Everyone we interviewed proved to be great candidates and we’re happy with our selection and think the vendor we selected can and will do a good job,” said Pomeroy. “The only thing left to do is finalize the negotiations with Thrasher.”

The new building will be at least 17,500 square feet, or larger, depending on additional tenants that may occupy the building. It will be situated at the Charles Pointe development on property across from the BFS station and adjacent to the 600 Building. The cost of the building will ultimately be determined by its size, but CVB officials have been escrowing money to help buffer costs. As for an exact cost, that too has not yet been determined.

“This is a great step forward for the CVB and the entire Bridgeport community,” said CVB Executive Director Michelle Duez. “Being along the Interstate 79 corridor will better serve the visitors to our community with a site that is more accessible than what we currently are able to offer.”

Currently, the Bridgeport CVB offices are on Main Street in Bridgeport. The CVB is situated on the third floor of the Benedum Civic Center.
