For those who have a tough time seeing faded roadway markers in areas beyond Interstate 79 and Route 50 in Harrison County and several surrounding counties, good news is on the way.

Last month, the West Virginia Division of Highways approved 31 projects. Among those projects, was a roadway striping project for Harrison, Doddridge, Marion, and Monongalia Counties for $2,618,000.

The Aero-Mark Company LLC was the low bidder, according to WVDOH District Four Construction Engineer Jason Nelson.

“This contract covers the application of all white and yellow edge, lane and centerline markings on all non-interstate federal, state and county roads within the entirety of District Four,” said Nelson. “Interstate routes are handled under a separate contract administered out of the central office in Charleston.”

While the exact amount involving Harrison County was not available, Nelson said the marking for all four of those counties is substantial. He said, when finished, there will be 4,400 miles of markings.

“The project will begin this spring once the weather turns and temperature requirements can be achieved consistently,” said Nelson. “The current completion date (per the contract) is August 1, 2024.”

There is also good news related to potential traffic impacts it could create.

“There are notes in the plans that place limitations of the contractor performing work during peak traffic times. If weather allows, they will many times perform work on warm evenings and nights to avoid traffic,” said Nelson.

Nelson said it is critical that drivers follow signage and flagger directions. He said this is a material that needs dry time and can be damaged by live traffic until dry.
