One of Bridgeport's Most Popular Annual Events is Set to Return in August as Citywide Yard Sale is On

The Sixth Annual Bridgeport Citywide Yard Sale was supposed to take place last August before COVID-19 put a halt to it and just about everything else. With things starting back to return to a semblance of normal, many have asked if the event is coming back in 2021.

The answer is yes.

Bridgeport Community Development Director Andrea Kerr said what could be described as the “kind of” sixth annual event will be held August 7. The promoted time for the Saturday sale will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“So much was canceled due to COVID last year so we’re glad to have this event back,” said Kerr. “It is one of the most popular ones in Bridgeport and draws thousands of people into the city and there are usually more than 100 people that have sales that day.”

While the event is officially scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Kerr said many residents opt to start early and continue later. She said some also start on Friday.

“People can do it more than one day and set their own hours,” said Kerr. “As for the official event, it will be the first Saturday in August and will run from 8 (a.m.) to 4 (p.m.). That is the day and time frame we will publicize.”

The city will once again put together a list of houses that wish to participate. Those houses will then be placed on a printed map that will be available for pickup at the Bridgeport Municipal Complex, the Benedum Civic Center, the Greater Bridgeport Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Bridgeport Public Library, and The Bridge.

To register, email the address of your home to Kerr starting today at akerr@bridgeportwv.com. Addresses for the printed version will be added until July 16.

The flyer will also contain additional information as well. On the back will be a list of addresses of city restaurants to eat at.

“This is a big event and a popular event as well. There are many that don’t participate and have to deal with their neighborhood getting bombarded with people and more traffic than they’re used to,” said Kerr. “We’re again reminding people to be courteous, keep cars out of yards and on the pavement, don’t block driveways, and watch your speed.

“There will be extra law enforcement out to be on the lookout for issues with traffic control and improperly parked vehicles on the street,” she continued. “We hope to keep the impact to a minimum and allow for another great city yard sale.”
