Bridgeport Public Library : Summer Reading for Children Orientation!
Bridgeport, WV – Parents and children are invited to Summer Reading Orientation on Monday, June 2, 2014 at 6:00pm at the Bridgeport Public Library! Amy Eakle, the Children’s Librarian, will present descriptions of the 2014 Summer Reading programs. Amy will discuss reading logs, prizes, and volunteer opportunities with parents. Attending children will be put to work in making nature journals for this summer’s observations!
“FIZZ BOOM READ” is this year’s theme for Summer Reading for children! Programs and recommended reads will focus on science. Children will be aided in experiments ranging from chemical reactions to paper airplane design. They will also learn about fingerprints and the moon’s role in ocean tides. Registration is required for all Summer Reading programs. To register your child, please call the library on or after May 31, 2014 at 304-842-8248.

About Summer Reading
Summer reading programs began in the 1890s as a way to encourage school children, particularly those in urban areas and not needed for farm work, to read during their summer vacation, use the library and develop the habit of reading. Libraries also now offer summer reading programs for adults, as well as children.
