On May 2-4, 2014 the Scottish Heritage Society of North Central WV will be celebrating its thirteenth annual Scottish Festival & Celtic Gathering at the Bridgeport City Park in Bridgeport, WV. Festival goers will have the opportunity to enjoy all of the events they've come to expect and enjoy from the festival each year. On Friday, May 2nd, the Festival kicks off with the traditional ceilidh (KAY-lee, Gaelic for festive gathering) at Via Veneto in Bridgeport. The evening will consist of Scottish fare and include a sampling of the Scottish and Celtic music that will be featured on the Main Stage at the Festival the next day, as well as in Concert on Saturday night.
On Saturday, May 3rd, the schedule of activities will feature such events as sanctioned solo bagpiping, Scottish drumming, Highland dancing and amateur heavy athletics competitions, as well as the opening parade and performance of massed bagpipe band and individual band performances. As always, there will be activities throughout the day for all age groups, including living history presentations, hand bell ringers, dancing and drumming workshops and children's games. Various Scottish and Celtic musical entertainers will perform throughout the day on the Main Stage including The American Rogues, IONA and The Chanty Wrasslers, all of which cover a variety of musical genres including Celtic rock and folk. The day's featured musical entertainers will get together again on Saturday evening at the Bridgeport High School Auditorium to present an evening of incomparable Scottish and Celtic music.
The final event of the festival will take place on Sunday, May 4th with the annual "Kirkin' of the Tartans" service at the First Presbyterian Church on Main Street in Clarksburg. It will begin with the Grand Procession of flags and banners, preceded by a bagpipe band, from the Harrison County Courthouse into the sanctuary of the church.
