The Bridgeport High School Dance Team will compete in the Five Star Dance Competition this Saturday at Robert C. Byrd High School. The Indians will face a talented field of competitors that include; Parkersburg South Southern Belles, Washington High School Synergy Dance Ensemble, Lincoln High School Dance Team and the Robert C. Byrd High School Dance Team. Also, there is a Junior Division team, Enigma, that features several talented middle school students from the Lumberport area. A few performances will also be made by local dance students from Altered Productions Institute. Organizer, Barry Calef, said his goal has been to have a first class competition for the state’s best dance teams. “This is Five Star’s second year.” stated Calef. “Last year was a great success. We made sure that our judges were top notch and could critique the teams to help them in the future. Every judge we hired had a Master’s Degree in Dance and had a long history of dance instruction and ballet.” Calef said it is well worth the registration fee for coaches to have their team evaluated by dance experts. While the event is taken quite serious, Five Star also offers some pretty nifty entertainment this year. J Lucas, a Michael Jackson tribute artist who performs regularly in Las Vegas and has performed around the world, was persuaded by Calef to make the trip to Clarksburg. “J is amazing. He works very hard to let us relive the ‘Michael Jackson in concert experience.’ His voice and dancing abilities are as close as anyone may ever get to being like Michael. The dancers, coaches and audience will love him!” stated Calef. The Five Star Dance Competition is Saturday, March 15 at Robert C. Byrd High School. Doors open at 10:00am and competition begins at 11:00am. The entire event (including the Michael Jackson Experience) is expected to last 2 hours and 45 minutes. Admission is $8
