Celebrate the 2nd Annual National Trails Day with a Hike at Stonewall Resort on June 7th
WESTON WV (May 27, 2014) -- Walkers, bikers and runners are invited to Stonewall Resort on June 7th and are encouraged to participate in the second annual six-mile hike to celebrate the American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day.
According to Steve Ludwig, Director of Sales and Marketing at Stonewall Resort, “We are excited to host our second annual celebration hike and we invite our guests to walk, run or bike at leisure in this non-competitive event which will begin at 8:00 a.m. and conclude around noon.”
Ludwig said there will be a $20 registration fee which will include an event t-shirt and a donation to the Stonewall State Park Foundation for future trail maintenance. The hike will take place on Rush Run, the 6-mile stretch beginning at the Stonewall Jackson Dam and leading onto the scenic property near the lakeside cottages.
Ludwig said the hike is along a moderate to difficult trail and requires appropriate hiking footwear. Lead by park superintendent, Sam England, the hike will begin on a wide trail overlooking the lake and then climbing to the ridge top of a wooded area. Park nature guides will highlight interesting features along the way.
“We encourage guests to bring any beverages or snacks that might be needed along the way and dogs on a leash are welcome. We will have a vehicle which will follow hikers and can hold extra water or personal belongings,” Ludwig added.
While participants can register as late as 7:30 a.m. on the day of the event, those wishing to insure a correct T-shirt size should sign up immediately. All registered participants should meet at the parking lot at the end of the cottages no later than 8:00 a.m. The shuttle will then take registered participants to the starting point. Guests with questions about the event can call Samantha Norris at 304-269-8820 or email snorris@stonewallresort.com.
“This is an excellent opportunity for folks to experience the raw beauty of our wild and wonderful resort and, at the same time, get some exercise and help us celebrate National Trails Day,” Ludwig concluded.
