It's Happening: It's About Time

By Julie Perine on January 04, 2015 from It’s Happening

My pastor husband delivered a dynamite New Year’s sermon this morning and though I was quite interested in what he had to say, I was slightly distracted by our church family’s newest baby. I was intrigued watching beautiful little Katrina Lee interact with her mommy and just as absorbed in watching the first-time grandma taking it all in.

While I was listening to Jeff talk about family time being a Christian priority, I was thinking how we grandmas have a special – even kind of secret – sisterhood. There’s just something about seeing a child you gave birth to, nurtured, loved and raised parenting her own child. I’ll never forget the moment I first saw my own granddaughter and the love that swelled in my heart. It was the ultimate Deja vu experience, reliving the first sight of our own baby girl more than 20 years earlier. Life is just full of moments like that. We’re blessed to recognize them and ponder them in our hearts.

The New Year’s sermon also addressed the fact that time here on earth flies by. Amen to that. In fact, the older we get, the faster it seems to go, shedding perhaps a little light on James 4:14 - that our lives are like a vapor, appearing for a little while than vanishing. Moments when we truly connect with those we love can easily get lost in the shuffle if we let ourselves become too busy. And as we all well know, this world can keep us very, very busy.

As we dive into 2015, here’s to carving time out of our busy lives for treasured times with those God has graciously blessed us with.  And as was shared from the pulpit today, we’re wise if we carve out the first chunk of time to spend alone with our creator, seeking His word, will and guidance in our lives. It’s not rocket science – or even magic – that when we seek Him first, He somehow stretches that sought after commodity we call time.
