Braves Softball Team Rolls Past Elkins by 18-4 Score

On Tuesday night, Bridgeport Middle School;s softball team boarded a school bus and headed to Elkins Middle School to play a Mid-Mountain Ten Conference game. On the way there, it did not look promising that the game would be played due to rainy weather. But when they arrived, the skies cleared and the game was able to be played.
Bridgeport ended up winning 18-4.
BMS started the game by scoring nine runs in the top of the first. Olivia Bell was hit by a pitch and Sylvia Devono walked. After both stole a base, Bell scored on a wild pitch and Devono scored on a triple by Avery Humble. Madilyn Fittro followed with a RBI double and moved to third on a wild pitch. Chloe Barlow was hit by a pitch and stole second. Amayah Clark walked to load the bases. Fittro and Barlow scored on wild pitches and Clark moved to third. Breanna Laxton walked and stole second. Clark came across the plate on a wild pitch and Laxton moved to third. Emma Dale walked and passed ball allowed Laxton to score and moved Dale to second. Bell singled to score Dale. After a steal of second and moving to third on a passed ball, Bell scored on a ground out by Devono.
The Lady Braves increased their lead to 11-0 in the top of the second. Fittro singled and stole second and third bases. With one out, Fittro scored on a wild pitch and Clark walked. After Clark stole second, she came home on a single by Addison Mike.
The Lady Braves continued to score in the third, Bell lead off with a triple. She scored on a dropped third strike throw to first base.
In the top of the fourth, Clark and Laxton started the frame with back-to-back singles. With one out, both scored on a triple by Dale that gave BMS a 15-0 lead.
Elkins got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth by scoring four runs. A lead off triple, three walks, two BMS errors, and an RBI infield ground out.
BMS completed its scoring in the top of the fifth. Humble doubled to start the inning. She scored on a triple by Molly Frenzel. Barlow reached second on a two-base outfield error that scored Frenzel. Annie Veigel entered the game as a courtesy runner for Barlow.Veigel scored on a single by Payton Fisher and BMS now had a 18-4 advantage.
Barlow held the Lady Hornets scoreless in the bottom of the fifth and the game ended via the mercy rule.
The win improved the Lady Braves overall season record to 9-5.
Barlow pitched a complete game for BMS to earn the pitching win. Her season record is now 6-3. Her pitching line read five innings, four runs, one hit, five walks, and nine strikeouts.
The Lady Braves return to action on Wednesday evening when they take on the Robert L. Bland Lady Patriots at the Bridgeport Softball Field. First pitch is set for 5:45 p.m. These two teams were to play each other at the end of March in a conference game in Weston. That game was not played due to inclement weather. With this game being a conference game, the Lady Patriots will retain their home field status at tonight’s game.
