Cornerback Fontez Davis, a junior college signee who did not see action for West Virginia last season, has left the team, a source confirmed to MetroNews.
MetroNews is reporting he was removed from the official roster Friday, three days after the Mountaineers began spring practice.
The 6-foot, 200-pound Davis was a high school running back and receiver who converted to defense during two seasons at Butler (Kan.) Community College. He also sported track speed — timed at 11.01 seconds in the 100 meters in high school — but wasn’t able to crack the rotation at WVU.
He becomes the third reserve cornerback to exit recently, following the January departures of twins Jordan and Jacquez Adams.
