The Grapevine: A Happy New Year and Downsizing Homes

By Rosalyn Queen Alonso on January 05, 2017 from The Grapevine

Happy New Year.  I hope that all of you will face this new year with faith and optimism that all will be good and we will all enjoy good health.

Several columns ago I mentioned that I would be making an announcement in the near future and so I thought that this first column of 2017 would be the place to do it. I want to inform you that we are in the process of moving.  This is a decision that we made only because we realize that a three story five bedroom house is much too large for just the two of us.

It has been my dream  home.  Never did I imagine that this little girl from East View would have the opportunity to live in this beautiful home. But because of Dave, I have been able to realize this dream.

Now I must realize that we have to downsize and that is exactly what we are doing.  We will be moving just a couple of blocks away in a lovely neighborhood with some great neighbors.  We will have a ranch style one story brick home with three bedrooms.

I know your next question is just how am I going to get everything moved?  Well that seems to be the big question for me, but Dave has allowed me the luxury of keeping both places for a couple of months so that I can try to move correctly and at my own time limit.  Every room has three boxes; one to go with me, one for a rummage sale and one for the garbage.

I knew I was a pack rat but little did I believe that I had accumulated all of this "stuff". I have learned that moving is not for sissy's and when I think I just cannot do any more, I get a second wind and continue on. The bad thing about the process of moving is that no one can help me go through most things, so I am trying hard to touch everything prior to deciding what to do with it.  A lot of time is consumed as I touch items and they bring back a lot of memories.  But as always, I know I will get through it. I promise to keep you all updated on my progress.

Other good news that happened to our family this week is the announcement from Mac Warner that our son Mike will be going to work with the Secretary of State's office.  We are so proud of him and happy for him. We wish him good luck in this new venture. We will miss his radio show and I know that many of you will too.

I am trying to keep an upbeat attitude about all the friends that I have lost to cancer in the past six weeks.  My thoughts and prayers are with the families of Darlene Lehosit, Beverly Small Johnston,  Marilyn Hendrickson, Mr. Venetozzi, and Jerry Warne and all of those who have lost a loved one. I know the journey you have traveled and it is not an easy one.  We must turn this over to someone bigger than we are and accept what will happen.

Please keep your prayers going to the Guzzi family as Angie recuperates.  Dave and I spent a couple of hours New Year's Eve at the hospital with Rose and Johnny.

Face the New Year with a lot of faith and hope. Your resolution should be to live, love and be happy in good health. Thanks to everyone for their support over the past year and I hope that I will be able to return the favor.

Keep in touch and until next week" Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine."
