Dr. John H. Lodge graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1943. He majored in pre-medicine at WVU and earned a degree in ophthalmology from Johns Hopkins University in 1951. He completed an internship at Ohio State University Hospitals in 1952 and finished his residency at the University of Wisconsin in 1957. He served in Misawa, Japan for two years with the United States Air Force Medical Service. He opened a private practice in 1959 and served the Bethesda, MD community for nearly 50 years.
He and his brother, William Dunkin Lodge, established a five-year program in honor of their late mother, Mary Hayes Lodge, a former Bridgeport High School teacher, to allow for a nationally or internationally known figure to come to BHS to encourage students to reach their goals. The program ran from 1991-1995 and featured speakers such as NASA Astronaut Jon McBride and Senator Jeremiah Denton among others.
