Dr. Kelly Nelson was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama. He graduated from Auburn University and received a B.S. in biology (Summa Cum Laude - 1982). In 1986 he received his M.D. from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He moved to West Virginia and took a residency in Family Medicine at United Hospital Center. He was the longtime Medical Director of Medbrook Medical Associates before merging his business with MedExpress in 2008. He is currently the Vice President for Operations for MedExpress in WV.
Kelly founded Medbrook Children's Charity in 2000. He serves or has served on the Mon Valley Bank Board of Directors, West Virginia Academy of Family Physicians--Sports Medicine Committee and Special Long-Range Planning Committee, Health Partners Network Board of Directors, and Chairman of the Board of the Foundation for Children, Families and Communities of WV. He has received many professional accolades as well as being named the Harrison County Board of Education Citizen of the Year in 2003, the WV Italian Heritage Festival Honorary Italian Man of the Year in 2005, Distinguished West Virginian 2005 (the highest award possible granted by the Governor) and Benedum Fellow 2008.
He has made many contributions to Bridgeport High School. For over 20 years Kelly has been the physician for the football team and has performed free sports physicals to student athletes in all sports at BHS.
