BHS Fares Well in Final MetroNews Football Rankings

Bridgeport’s football team started the season ranked No. 4 in Class AAA in the MetroNews High School Football Power Rankings. The Indians will end the season there as well.
The final poll came out Monday at the Tribe finished in the fourth spot. BHS finished the year 11-2 with a loss to Princeton by a 73-70 score in the Class AAA semifinals.
To no one’s surprise, Martinsburg tops the poll. The Bulldogs added another state championship to their trophy case by rolling to a state title win against Princeton. MHS finished 13-0.
Princeton, 12-2, finished in the second spot. Huntington, at 11-2, came in third place, while Cabell Midland, who BHS beat in the quarterfinals, was voted in the number five position, and finished at 10-2.
One other team on Bridgeport’s schedule, George Washington, finished in the top 10. The Patriots are at No. 10 and finished the year 6-5.
Three teams from the Big 10 Conference finished in the top in Class AA. Fairmont Senior, 11-2, were in the top spot after winning the state title in a thrilling 49-48 contest against North Marion. The 12-2 Huskies were ranked second in the final poll.
Philip Barbour finished an outstanding season with a 9-3 record. The Colts also ended the year listed at eighth in the MetroNews poll.
Williamstown, the state champion, was No. 1 in Class A. The Yellowjackets finished the year 14-0.
