Today, on July 16, 1869, right here in Bridgeport, Michael Benedum was born and his generosity and civic spirit have left a lasting mark on 
our community — a legacy that continues to inspire today.

From scholarships to foundations and beloved local landmarks, his name lives on. One of the most important to the City of Bridgeport is the Benedum Civic Center — an enlarged replica of Mr. Benedum’s family home.
Built and dedicated by Mr. Benedum himself in 1956, just three years before his passing in 1959, the Civic Center stands as a symbol of his enduring commitment to his hometown.
Today, the Benedum Civic Center serves as our Parks and Recreation office and a vibrant event and community center, bringing people together just as Mr. Benedum envisioned.
