Bridgeport City Council Member Jon Griffith Resigns
By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on March 05, 2025
The following statment was released by City Council member Jon Griffith:
"I have made a difficult and personal decision. I have submitted my resignation from Bridgeport City Council effective immediately. As such, I will also be ending my campaign for mayor.
For some time now, I have noticed a disturbing trend. I am having serious difficulty sleeping, eating, focusing, etc. I hoped it was something I could work through over time. Instead, it has only become worse. After serious introspection, it has become apparent that my deep and committed involvement with the city and city council is at the root of my issues.
When public service begins to harm my physical, mental, or emotional health, I cannot give 100% to those I serve. For those who know me, giving less than that does not sit well with me. I have always set high expectations for myself.
I find myself in very unfamiliar territory. I am torn between my desire for public service and my welfare. My intent in this role has always been to give back. This community and its residents mean the world to me. Second only to my own family and my faith. However, at this point, I cannot continue to serve without an unacceptable cost to my well-being.
To all who have supported and believed in me, I am sorry. I hope you understand my decision. This is not an easy one to make.
Thank you to the city’s residents for allowing me to represent you. You are amazing and you are what makes Bridgeport, Bridgeport.
Thank you to the outstanding employees across city government for all you do. You truly are incredible.
Thank you to the City Manager, Mayor, and members of the Council for your acceptance and camaraderie. I am certain that you will continue to lead the city well."
