A project of the Bridgeport FFA, the Native Roots Greenhouse will open for the season at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3.
Through May 11 (with the exception of Fri., May 9), the greenhouse will be open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. weekends and 3:30-5 p.m. weekdays.
Available for sale will be a vast selection of hanging baskets, planters, annuals and more. Among annuals are dianthus, gerbera daisies, impatiens, snapdragons, zinnias and more. Cell packs for petunias, pansies, vinca and calibrachoa will also be available.
"All plants sold have been planted by the students," said Justin Arnold, agriculture educator at BHS. "We order them from Jolly Farmer and students oversee the transplanting and raising to a sellable product."
Proceeds of the plant sale support the Bridgeport FFA Chapter to purchase supplies for the chapter banquet as well as travel opportunities throughout the year, such as conventions and competitions
Maintained by FFA members, the Native Roots Greenhouse is located behind Bridgeport Middle School.
