Bridgeport Girls Repeat as Regional Champions With Breakout 2nd Half
By Michael Minnich on October 28, 2026
"Credit to Elkins. They came out and played hard," Bridgeport coach Keith Dumas said. "They were winning all of the balls in the midfield, which was really my biggest concern. We couldn't get any momentum because they were first to every ball.
"Lindsey is a great finisher, more than anything. If we can get her in space or on the run with the ball on her foot, she can cut so low and then find the back of the net."
Bridgeport got an early opportunity on a breakaway, but Macie Laverdierre hit the football bar with her shot.
Lindsey Callahan was one step away from getting onto a long pass in the 16th minute, with the ball gloved instead by the Elkins goalkeeper.
Elkins got its first good look on a break in the 26th minute, but Bridgeport goalkeeper Macie Dotson made a strong save and didn’t allow a rebound.
"We played them a couple of weeks ago and they came out really hard in that game as well. We had a little bit of trouble with them initially, but we scored a couple of goals and the game went in our favor. This time, we could not get any real opportunites early."
Molly Frenzel’s breakaway in the 30th minute went just wide at the near post, keeping the game scoreless at halftime.
"The playoffs are different," Dumas said. "Everybody plays differently when the game's on the line and it could be their last game of the season."
Ally Day forced a save in the 49th minute, then the next attack finally paid off for the Tribe as Lindsay Callahan finished with a hard shot with 31:10 remaining.
Lindsay Callahan was in again in the 53rd minute, but a double save kept it 1-0.
The Tribe doubled its lead with 25:29 left when Lindsay Callahan carried past a defender and slotted a 20-yard shot into the back left corner.
Evelyn Callahan assisted her sister's hat trick goal in the 61st minute to put the game out of reach and Laverdierre added insurance on the next Tribe attack.
Bridgeport improves to 15-6-1, while Elkins ends the year at 9-10-2.
The Class AAA girls state tournament semifinals are the second session on Thursday, starting at 5 p.m.
The state championship game is Saturday, 45 minutes after the trophy ceremony for the boys final, which begins at 10:30 a.m.
