City Faces in Different Places

By Julie Perine on June 14, 2020 from City Faces

Today's City Face is a regular at Johnson Elementary. Meet Erin Bowers.

How long have you lived in Bridgeport? If not a lifelong resident, tell me what brought you here.

We have lived here for a year and a half. Our oldest son transferred to BHS his Freshman year. Our youngest attended Heritage Christian, Johnson Elementary and now BMS. We wanted to be closer to work and the boys’ schools.

Are you married, have kids? Tell me about your family.

My husband, J.T. and I have been married for 21 years this month. J.T. worked for The City of Bridgeport for 7 years as the Systems Admin. He is currently an IT Manager at Mon Health. Our oldest son, Blake, is 19 and will be a Sophomore at WVU this Fall. Our youngest son, Baustin, is 13 and will be in 8th Grade at BMS this Fall.

What about pets?
We have one dog, Cleo! She is completely spoiled!

Where do you work and what do you do there?
I am a Kindergarten Teacher at Johnson Elementary. I have always felt that teaching was my calling, my ministry.

What are your hobbies/favorite past times?
I love to spend time with my family, read and run!

Favorite Bridgeport spot?
I love being outdoors, the City Park, The Rec Complex, local places to eat and have coffee…

What do you like about Bridgeport … why is this a good place to live?
I like the community feel of Bridgeport. I love being close to shops and the schools. I am grateful for the education that my children have gotten/are getting, and also for being able to have a small part in the education of the children in our community.

One – or more – of your favorite memories of something that took place in Bridgeport ...
I treasure the countless memories I have had here with my boys… school activities, sporting events, special activities. They have meant the world to me!

I also look forward to Light Up Night every year! A few years back, it started snowing as the fireworks were taking place. It felt magical…it was like being in the middle of a Hallmark movie. I literally remember thinking that in the moment… and have heard others refer to the likeness of a Hallmark movie since then!

What is your favorite WV spot outside of Bridgeport?
I would have to say the town of West Milford, where I grew up. It is where my family lives, many of my friends live, and where many special moments and memories were made.

How about your favorite place outside of WV?
Hilton Head Island. We vacation with my family there most every year. We love it! It feels like my home away from home!

What are some of your favorite things?

Food/restaurant?
I love hoagies, salad, and ice cream! Some of my favorite local restaurants are Oliverio’s, Winnies’s and Almost Heaven Desserts.

Favorite color?
Teal… I also love the color Blue

Music genre/artist?
Contemporary Christian

What is your best childhood memory?
I couldn’t pick one special memory. I am very blessed with the parents that God gave to me. We are, and have always been, very close. My whole childhood is really a special memory. That is something I don’t take for granted.

Interesting fact about you and/or something you would like to add…
I can’t let an opportunity go by in which I do not acknowledge my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This relationship means everything to me, and I hope that it is something that others notice in me. Jesus is everything to me!
