City Faces in Different Places

By Julie Perine on August 09, 2020 from City Faces

Meet this week's City Face, Beckie Alvaro:

How long have you lived in Bridgeport? If not a lifelong resident, tell me what brought you here.
I have lived here since I was in 5th grade. My family moved here when my father was transferred with the telephone company.

Are you married, have kids? Tell me about your family.
I have been married to Buz (Angelo Alvaro) for 44 years. We have 3 children- Deanna Murlin, Maria Morrison and Mark Alvaro, and two grandchildren, Carter and Victoria

What about pets?
A 12-year-old basset hound named Chloe

Where do you work and what do you do there?
I retired from Bridgeport Middle School as a science teacher 5 years ago, to babysit my twin grandchildren.

What are your hobbies/favorite past times?
I love to crochet and read

Favorite Bridgeport spot?
I love the city parks, but my absolute favorite spot is the football field on Friday nights in the fall.

What do you like about Bridgeport … why is this a good place to live?
It is a wonderful place to raise a family. The community always supports its children and the educational system is second to none.

One – or more – of your favorite memories of something that took place in Bridgeport ...
The Fireman’s Fair, especially when it was held behind the fire department on Main St. I was a princess way back in 1974.

What is your favorite WV spot outside of Bridgeport?
Any state park

How about your favorite place outside of WV?
Ireland is my absolute favorite place to have visited, but Myrtle Beach with the extended family is our favorite vacation.

What are some of your favorite things?

Food/restaurant?
Any local Italian restaurant

Favorite color?
Red

Music genre/artist?
I have eclectic taste in music, but you will find my Sirius XM tuned to 70s on 7

What is your best childhood memory?
Sled riding on the hill where our house is currently located. How Bridgeport has expanded has been amazing to watch.
