City Faces in Different Places

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on August 01, 2021 from City Faces

This week's Bridgeport Cty Face is former Bridgeport Middle School Principal Carole Crawford.

Thanks Carole for being featured as our City Face. Tell me about your family …
My husband Bill and I have two sons. Our oldest son Adam lives with his wife Ali in Charleston. They have two sons, Saxon James and Mattux Thomas. Baby sister is due to join them in October! Adam is the medical director at CAMC general division emergency department, core academic faculty for the emergency medicine residency and chief of the department of CAMC Emergency Medicine. His wife Ali is an account executive with the Asher Agency.

Our youngest son Tyler lives with his wife Olivia in Bridgeport. They have a daughter Jemma Norr and a son Carter James. Tyler is director of sales for CityNet, is a youth soccer coach and is active at Bridgeport United Methodist Church.  His wife Olivia is a second grade teacher at Simpson Elementary.

My mother Patricia Teets (pictured below, left) is active, working out at the YMCA and serving as a volunteer at UHC.

Do you have pets?
We don't have pets on the farm, unless you count the wild animals like deer and bear! We have pets who visit! Hank is a Frenchton from Charleston, Ebony is a black lab from Bridgeport and Willow is a Bernese Mountain Dog, also from Bridgeport. Sunny, the Bridgeport cat, doesn't visit!

What do you do for a living?
I retired as the Supervisor of Personnel for Harrison County Schools in 2018.  Prior to that I was Principal at Bridgeport Middle for 14 years. BMS was a wonderful place to work with great staff, students and parents. I am proud to have been a part of that team. Before BMS, I was a classroom teacher for more than 20 years. Since our retirement, my husband Bill and I spend our time at our farm in Fairmont with Bill retired after a 35-plus year career with US Foodservice.

What are your hobbies, past times?
My hobbies/favorite past times: Bill and I enjoy traveling. We have traveled as far as South Africa and all over the United States. We are anxious for the day when we can travel freely again and mark more destinations abroad off our bucket list. We boat at Tygart Lake and enjoy days floating with family and friends. We are avid Mountaineer sports fans. We have had the same seats at Mountaineer Field since it opened – gathering in the stadium with almost 40 of our college friends each game day! We have our fingers crossed to be in the Blue Lot again this year.

What is your favorite spot in Bridgeport?
Currently my favorite Bridgeport spot includes any and all playgrounds! Our granddaughter Jemma takes us on regular tours!

Why is Bridgeport a good place to live and work?
As an educator in Bridgeport, I immediately realized that it is a great place to live. The smalltown feel and big town successes are contagious. We are thrilled that Tyler is raising his family in Bridgeport where opportunities are endless. Adam's wife Ali was raised at Maple Lake and they come home often to join in Bridgeport activities.

What is your favorite spot outside of Bridgeport?
My favorite spot outside of Bridgeport is anywhere on the Gulf Coast of Florida. We spend time there in the winter and have not found a beach that we don't love.

What are some of your favorite things?

My favorite food is sushi and sashimi salmon.

Our favorite restaurant is anywhere we haven't been before!

As for music, I enjoy classic rock. My friends will tell you that country is not on my list, although they are still working on converting me.

Our TV is usually tuned into sports or a good movie. During the initial lockdown for the pandemic, we became binge watchers of some pretty awesome series.

Interesting fact....Bill's family has deep roots in Bridgeport. His grandfather owned Furbees Pharmacy. His Uncle Carl was mayor of Bridgeport. Bill's mother Enid was editor of the first Shawnee Powwow for BHS. We have the original copy. Upon her passing we were honored to have the alma mater (which she helped write) dedicated to her at a BHS football game.
