City Faces in Different Places

By Julie Perine on February 13, 2022 from City Faces

This week's Bridgeport City Face is Lisa Ashcraft. Meet her here!

Tell us about you and your family (and pets!) and how long you've lived in Bridgeport.

My name is Lisa Duke Ashcraft. I was raised in Nutter Fort and went to Roosevelt Wilson HS.  My husband, Roy, and I have lived in Bridgeport since 1984. We have two daughters, Jennifer (Jon) Fox and Deanna (Jon) Beard, both who live in Holly Ridge, NC with our three granddaughters, Madison and Parker Fox and Caroline Hinkle.

If you have a significant other, tell us how you met. Roy and I were high school sweethearts and are excited to be celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary in June of this year.

Why do you like it here? We purchased our first home in Bridgeport when Jennifer was 8 months old and have loved raising our family here. Our girls both graduated from Bridgeport High School and we are members of Bridgeport United Methodist Church. We love the strong sense of community with a Hallmark movie small town feel, excellent school system, parks and a thriving economy nestled in the hills of our beautiful state.  Bridgeport has been a wonderful place to raise our family and continues to be a great place to call home.

What's your favorite event here in our city?
We love attending Christmas Light Up Night, seeing the entire community filling Main Street. The lighting of the tree is a great way to kick off the holiday season.

What about a spot that you frequent?
Our love of camping takes us to campgrounds in our area, my favorite being Stonewall and Canaan Valley State Park.

Where do you work and what do you do there? I am a Clinical Informaticist with Vocera Communications based in San Jose, CA implementing HIPAA compliant clinical communication software. It has taken me to hospitals across the country and I’ve enjoyed the travel, visiting beautiful venues but am always happy to return back home.

What are some of your favorite pasttimes and hobbies? Boating and camping with family and friends, entertaining and reading.

Do you have any goals - personal or professional - either shortterm or longterm?  Traveling more to NC to visit our family and vacationing more.

Tell us about one of your favorite Bridgeport memories. Bridgeport High School cheerleaders winning the State AA Cheerleading Championship in 2002. Jennifer was a senior on the squad.

What are your favorite area foods/restaurants? Twin Oaks and anything Italian

What tunes are on your playlist? I love music and play it loudly!  Favs are Elton John, 80’s, country music

What about favorite movies or TV shows? Are you streaming anything now or have recently that you recommend? The Midwives series and Pretty Woman is my fav movie.

If you could vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go? Bora Bora and Italy

What is one or more of your past favorite vacations? St. Lucia for our daughter Deanna’s wedding – it was beautiful!

What is an interesting tidbit about you? I’d love to work in a flower shop.
