DNR: Fall Turkey Season Begins Saturday, October 10

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on October 09, 2026

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) today announced that turkey hunting will return to West Virginia when the fall season’s first segment opens in all 55 counties on Oct. 10.

The first segment of the fall turkey season is open Oct. 10-18 in all 55 counties. The second segment will be open Oct. 26 to Nov. 1 and provides an additional week of hunting opportunities in 16 counties. A third and final segment will be open Oct. 26 to Nov. 15 and provides three additional weeks of hunting in 14 counties.

“We encourage hunters to take the opportunity to reconnect with the outdoors and pursue one of West Virginia’s most elusive game birds,” said WVDNR Director Brett McMillion. “There’s nothing like bagging your own wild turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. It’s a wonderful tradition to share with family and friends, and we remind everyone to stay safe, follow season regulations and make the most of West Virginia's unmatched autumn woods.”

During the fall turkey season, only one bird of either sex can be harvested using a bow, crossbow or gun, including air rifles that are .22 caliber or larger. Hunting hours range from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset. The use of electronic calls and bait is prohibited. For more information about the fall turkey season, check page 41 in the West Virginia Hunting Regulations Summary, available online at //WVdnr.gov/hunting-regulations.

All hunters 15 and older are required to have a valid West Virginia hunting license and valid form of identification while hunting, which can be purchased at license agents across the state or online at WVhunt.com.
