This past Sunday I spent the afternoon with my son Michael. First we had lunch at Bridgeport High School where the All Sports Boosters was having a fundraiser. It was spaghetti and I must say that it was very good. We had the opportunity to share lunch with Jeannine and Sugar Vincent. It was great to have the opportunity to visit with them. After lunch Mike and I attended the Senior Class Play. The production was Godspell. Out family is a great supporter of the arts and music in our schools. I know that Mike has used his position on the school board to encourage schools to offer opportunities for students. I just cannot find the right words to praise director Jason Young, the wonderful cast of students and all those who worked on Godspell behind the scenes.
Several weeks ago our neighbor had a party and we had the opportunity to meet Megan Krohe and her parents there. What a wonderful young lady Megan is and I commend her parents for all their support to her. You can imagine how thrilled I was when I learned that she had been elected Homecoming Queen at BHS. And if that was not enough, she had a role in the senior class play on Sunday. What a wonderful high school experience this young lady is having. She will graduate this year from BHS.
In all of my visits to New York and Washington D.C., I never had the opportunity to attend the very popular musical Godspell. So I was quite surprised to find out just what this play was about. The students did an excellent job and since it was a musical they were great at singing and dancing.I especially want to call attention to the fine job that Jason Young did as director. This was his 14th show at BHS. What a great opportunity he and Bridgeport High School are affording the students in the area.
Jason recently founded Vintage Theatre Company and his office is at the PWA Uptown Event Center (formerly the YWCA) in Clarksburg. I hope you will support his efforts in promoting the arts in Harrison County. His wife Sarah Young works along side him and is a seasoned choreographer. Many thanks to this young couple who devote so much time to the youth of our county.
A special note to all of you Grapevine readers: please make it a point to attend the next play or musical at your local high school. You will be pleasantly surprised at the quality of work these young people bring to the stage. Our high schools just can't do it without the financial help of patrons like us who come out to see the shows the schools provide. They needs us to buy tickets.
While I was at the play, Dave was home cleaning off the garden. He was able to get a final bucket full of peppers and a nice mess of Swiss chard. He pulled up some beautiful basil which I will be drying to use this winter. It was kind of sad to say goodbye to the garden.
I think I am done with mushrooms, but should I get another one or two I will can them with peppers in sauce. I intend to make a minestra from the chard and although I do have some in the freezer, there is nothing like minestra made from fresh chard.
Take care and until next week "Now you have heard it through the grapvine"
