You know what time of year it is don't you? New Years Resolutions!
My plan this year is to wait until I wake up in the morning and then resolve to do something great that day. I guess now is confession time and I must admit that I cannot remember ever making a resolution that lasted more than 30 days. I think our intentions are always good, but something gets in the way. On January 1, I am going to resolve to not procrastinate and to get some home chores done such as taking down holiday decorations, putting away my holiday sweaters and getting rid of extra food that Dave and I do not need to consume. I will freeze as much as I can and then share the leftovers with family and friends. Today I am also going to try to work in a little extra exercise, nothing too strenuous but enough to strengthen my legs and then I will see what resolution tomorrow brings. I will keep you advised as to how my new method of resolutions works. Wish me well.
I feel like I must spend some time and space on my own personal holidays. Today I feel that I must be the luckiest person in the universe. I just completed a wonderful holiday season, probably the best ever. When you are 74, how much does it take to make you happy? I do not know how much but I know what it is. Christmas Eve found me surrounded by all of my family and Christmas Day was the same. We were able to enjoy our traditional Seven Fishes dinner on Christmas Eve. I am so happy to report that I feel confident that if I should not be here in the future that my daughters, Lisa and Leslie, will carry on the tradition. Christmas Day was a wonderful traditional dinner and we all opened presents and had the opportunity to enjoy each other. Since Marty is still recouperating from his knee surgery, we met at his house and it was kind of like a homecoming to be back in East View. I spent about 50 years in that home and it holds a lot of memories for me and my children.
Dave and I attended a few holiday gatherings and enjoyed seeing our friends. As usual, the Quality Machine Christmas party was great. We were also guests at Sam Wilands annual party in his most beautiful home. He and Tim are such wonderful hosts. To see their home is like taking a trip back in time. I understand that Tim decorated about 22 trees and each had its own theme. For the first time in many years I attended Mass on Christmas day and not Midnight Mass. A change for me but one that age dictated that I make.
By the way, the mushrooms that I put down in the crock were the best ever and I think that my pita piatta were also great. My son Mike told me that he was eating mushroom sandwiches because they were so good.
Today I am so thankful for having had such a wonderful holiday. If you had the opportunity to travel down Carriage Lane you surely appreciated the beautiful lights that all my neighbors had up. Dave and I took several trips around town to view the lights. We also, traveled to Uptown Clarksburg and I must say that the lights there were pretty. James & Law once again had a beautiful window. It reminded me of the old Parsons Souders window that John Pinion created every year. I can still see the children with their noses pressed against the glass admiring all the animated figures. I hope that each of you enjoyed your holiday as much as I did.
From our house to yours, I wish each of you a very Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year and until next week "Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine."
