Harrison County CEOS Honored for Community Service Efforts

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on December 03, 2019

Members of the Harrison County Community Educational Outreach Service were honored by the state organization for their volunteer service to their community at the annual West Virginia CEOS Leadership and Enrichment Conference at WVU Jackson’s Mill.

Harrison County members contributed 52,500 community service hours to their local communities between September 2018 and August 2019, the second highest total among the counties having CEOS programs. Statewide, CEOS members provided 583,500 volunteer service hours. According to labor statistics provided to West Virginia University, the volunteer hours would have a paid value of more than $13 million.

The CEOS’ most recent volunteer service efforts centered around Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In addition to helping raise awareness for treatment and research, CEOS members hand-crafted a variety of comfort items that were given to patients undergoing treatments at the United Hospital Center.

Harrison County is home to nearly 300 CEOS members and 17clubs. For those wishing to join the CEOS organization, please contact the West Virginia University Extension Office at 304-624-8650.

Programs and activities offered by the WVU Extension Service are available to all persons without regard to race, color, sex, disability, religion, age, veteran status, political beliefs, sexual orientation, national origin, and marital or family status. When registering for programs, please designate special access or dietary needs three weeks prior. The information given herein is supplied with the understanding that no discrimination is intended and no endorsement by the Cooperative Extension Service is implied.

Editor's Note: The Harrison County Community Educational Outreach Service organization was honored for its community service work at the annual state conference at WVU Jackson’s Mill. Among the members attending the conference were (from left) Cynthia Wotasek, Charlene Burrows, Melanie Thomas, Carolyn Romine, Patricia Rummel, and West Virginia and Harrison County CEOS president Connie Wolfinger.
