Indians Place Fifth at Class AAA Region I Golf Championship; Morgantown, UHS Qualify for States

Bridgeport High School’s golf team competed in the Class AAA Region I championship match on Monday at The Pines Country Club in Morgantown.
 
The Indians finished fifth overall with a team score of 254.
 
Morgantown and University earned the state tournament berths by finishing first and second with scores of 230 and 237, respectively.
 
University’s Landon Spiker was the low medalist with a 74. Morgantown’s Gabriel Watson was the individual runner-up with a score of 76. His teammates Andrew Sheets and Braxton Martucci were tied for third, each shooting a 77.
 
Wheeling Park’s Campbell Koegler and Andrew Pennybacker each shot an 88 to earn spots in the state tournament (the Top 2 finishers not on the Top 2 teams qualified for states).
 
Bridgeport was led by Colton Gerhards who shot an 82. Audrey Kerr followed with an 84 and rounding out the scores that went towards the team standings was Tanner Straley with an 88.
 
Also competing at regionals for the Indians was Brayden Stutler, who finished with a score of 100.
 
Wheeling Park and John Marshall was third and fourth, respectively, in the team standings.
 
Following Bridgeport was Brooke, Buckhannon-Upshur and Preston.
 
The state tournament will take place Oct. 3-4 at Oglebay Golf Resort in Wheeling.
