Although it was on Sunday, Johnson Elementary School teachers Taya Trent and Barbara Smith did not let a little thing like a weekend interrupt a chance to teach a lesson and have some fun.
The fifth-grade teachers recently did a project celebrating Pi Day, which falls each year on March 14. Pi Day recognizes the mathematical constant pi (π) typically in counties utilizing the month/day (m/dd) date format, because the digits in the date, March 14 or 3/14, are the first three digits of π (3.14).
Others also take a chance to eat a lot of regular pie on the day. Trent and Smith took advantage of it and had some fun with their students. The photos shown are from the Harrison County School District Facebook page.
Pi Day is still relatively new. It was founded by Physicist Larry Shaw in 1988.
