By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on March 28, 2023

Fred Luther Hensley, 71, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, March 23, 2023.

He was born on October 2, 1951, in Fairmont, a son of Doris J. Brooks Hensley and the late Melvin Luther. Mr. Hensley attended Fairmont Senior High School. He is survived by four daughters, JeanAnn Hensley of Virginia, Jo Carol Casey and her husband Joe of Maryland, Carrie Lynn Pierce and her husband Mac of Virginia, and Peggy Hensley of Fairmont; one brother, Jerry Mark Hensley and his wife Mary Ann of Virginia; three sisters, Diana Ash and her husband Phil of Rivesville, Helen Ansel and her husband Skip of Texas, and Charlotte Long and her companion Joe Killem of Morgantown; two step-children, Jack White of Pennsylvania, and Lelia Waters of Barrackville. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

The family would like to thank his best friend and caregiver, Becky Burton. The family would also like to recognize four close friends who affectionately referred to Mr. Hensley as “Pappy Fred”, which assisted in caregiving: Aleah Cottingham, Addie Burton, Alayah Hall, and Nevaeh Hall.

He retired from the Marion County Board of Education, where he worked as a school bus driver and mechanic for many years. In his spare time, he was a local tow truck driver.

He enjoyed everything related to NASCAR, where he enjoyed spending his Sunday’s watching races. He also enjoyed working on cars and anything mechanical. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Barbara Jo Hensley. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ford Funeral Home to help offset the expenses of Mr. Hensley’s services. The Hensley Family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. In accordance with his wishes, cremation services will take place. Online condolences may be extended to the family at www.fordfuneralhomes.com.
