Editor's note: This is the debut of Bridgeport High School senior/marching band member Leah Stutler's spin-off on Michelle Duez's
weekly "City Faces" feature. Throughout the school year, Leah (pictured left) will be chatting it up with a member of the BHS Band, giving readers a little insight about the band program, what drives the school's young musicians - and some tidbits about their personalities, likes and ambitions.

Marching Band Faces: Meet Sarah Gustafson ... by Leah Stutler
Sarah Gustafson and I have been friends for a very long time, ever since we started summer swim team when we were about the age of 10. For seven years now, we've known each other and have been beside one another, without any difficulties or fights that came between us.
Gustafson is a senior trumpet player in the Bridgeport High School Marching Band, as well as first trumpet in Jazz Band. When I told her I was going to ask her questions, she seemed absolutely thrilled:

What has been your favorite field show in your four years of band at Bridgeport High School?
"That would be my freshman year in high school when our field show was 'Ancient Voices.' I liked that one because It was my first year in high school and Mr. Hayslette gave me a solo. We also had an awesome dance during one of the songs that year!"
What is your favorite song that we are playing in this year's field show?
"'Your Song." I loved Elton John's original recording before I even knew it was going to be a part of the field show because it is so beautiful. I also love that one because I solo in it.
What's your favorite genre of music?
Jazz.
Who is your favorite musical artist?
Since I love jazz, then it would have to be Frank Sinatra.
What other instruments do you play?
I just play the trumpet. At first, I played the clarinet, but I wasn't too good at that. So, then I tried the trumpet and soon realized that was my calling.
How long have you been in band?
I started in fourth grade, so nine years, including my senior year.
What is your favorite thing about band?
I love playing music with my friends, and also meeting new people during competitions that share the same love of music as me. I also enjoy listening and playing the music, and getting better every single day.
Do you take lessons from anyone?
Yes. I take lessons from Mr. (Don) Hamilton. I started taking lessons from him during the summer of my sophomore year.
