Meet Senior Face Michael Watkins

By Julie Perine on May 09, 2020

Today's Bridgeport High School Senior Face is athlete and music lover, Michael Watkins. Meet him here:

So Michael, tell me about your involvement at BHS?
I was on the high school football team my freshmen, junior, and senior years. I did not really participate in many clubs, I just focused on weightlifting and football.

What are your best high school memories?
My best memory of high school is winning the state championship in football. Nothing will compare to the feeling I got from all of that hard work paying off.

What are your post-graduation plans?
I have not fully committed anywhere for college, but I will proceed with football.

Tell me about your life’s dream. Where do you see yourself in 10 or 15 years?
My life’s dream has always been to grow up, get married, have kids, have a nice house with a bunch of jacked up trucks and supped up sports cars.

What BHS teachers have made a lasting impact upon you?
My fingers would fall off before I could type all of the teacher’s names and how they impacted me. However, I would like to thank Coach Cole and Coach Hilton for helping me through high school. They both were just always there for me in more ways than one, I was very grateful.

If you have a job, tell me about your work …
I work at Kroger’s in Clarksburg. I work in the quick list department which deals with online orders. With this virus, things have been really hectic but it is all still running smooth.

Tell me about you and some of your favorite things …
I love football and music. They are for sure at the top of my list. I love country music, it is in my heart, but a good bass in a rap song, that’s where it’s at. I love to watch football, watch highlights, learn things, and just have fun when I play it as well.
How has COVID-19 affected your senior year?
Personally, I feel we still could have kept going to school but nothing anybody can do. I did not mind the time away from school for a while, but then I started to miss my friends because nothing was open, and nobody can go anywhere. I kind of wish this whole thing would have just happened my junior year, so I could graduate like normal, but my senior class has always been the class where things have changed so it is no surprise.

Tell me about your family …
I grew up in a household of 4, my mother, father, sister, and myself. My sister is 4 years older than me, and ironically, my mom was 4 years older than my dad. When I was 12, my dad passed away. Ever since, it has just been my mom, my sister, my dog Chandler, my sister’s cat Joey, my mom’s cat Noel, and my cat Panther.
