Owner of Multiple Area Businesses, Korean War Veteran Joseph Anthony 'Joe' Oliverio Passes Away

Joseph Anthony “Joe” Oliverio, 87, of Clarksburg, WV, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Thursday, August 19, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Clarksburg on December 5, 1933, the youngest of 13 children to Dominick and Rosa (Spatafore) Oliverio.
Mr. Oliverio is survived by his wife of 65 years, Filomena (Colasessano) Oliverio. In addition to his wife, Joe is also survived by one daughter, Rosemary Castellana and husband Sam “Zig” of Fairmont; five grandchildren: Angel Oliverio (Adam Dolney) of FL, Nancy Bond (Jonathan) of KY, Michele Hess of Fairmont, Rama Scalcione (John) of SC, and Sam Castellana (Jamie) of Quiet Dell; six great-grandchildren: Brian Grieder, Rylee Grieder, Joseph Castellana, Everett Castellana, Vincent Hess, and Roselyn Bond; one sister-in-law, Nathaleen “Nat” Oliverio of KY; close friend Phil Southern (Carolyn) of Clarksburg; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Anthony “Joey O” Oliverio; and all of his siblings: infant Sammy Oliverio, Jimmy Oliverio, Anthony “Tony” Oliverio, Samuel “Blackie” Oliverio, Peter Albert “Pete” Oliverio, Lenora Cross, Joann “Jenny” Basile, Theresa LaCaria, Mary Posey, Sarah Romano, Constance Herman, and Angela Rose “Fatty” Guzzi.
Joe was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School and attended Fairmont College where he excelled in football at both levels. He went on to service his country honorably in the United States Marines during the Korean War, something he was very proud of.
Joe was an entrepreneur and along with his wife owned and operated Oliverio Cleaners, the Hamburger Mart, and several rentals.
He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, enjoyed gardening,
and doing yard work, always making things look top notch. He also liked playing pinochle and going to Hardee’s to mingle with his friends.
Joe loved his many faithful dogs over the years too, but above all he loved his family.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the VA Hospital network and Amedysis Hospice, and especially his nurse Savannah who he loved and took extra special care of him.
Family and friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 E. Main Street Clarksburg, WV, on Monday, August 23, 2021 from 3-8 p.m.
A Prayer Vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. to conclude the visitation.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Father Casey Mahone as Celebrant.
Interment will follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded.
