WDTV is reporting that officials with the city have confirmed that Salem EMS has decided to cease operations.
In a Salem City Council meeting, a decision was made to close the EMS department as of 10 a.m. Monday. Officials cited ongoing low call volume that will not support financial sustainability as the reason for the closure.
According to the city’s Facebook post, they will be looking for other potential ways to have EMS services available to the community and said more information will be released as it becomes available.
