Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Held for The Canteen

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on September 05, 2024

Although starting operations last month, the official opening of one of the most highly anticipated local restaurants in recent memory took place today at the Eastpointe Shopping Plaza in Clarksburg.

At 11 a.m., a ribbon cutting ceremony was held for The Canteen. The business is located at 252 Emily Drive Suite 3, Clarksburg.

The Harrison County Chamber of Commerce hosted the event. County, City of Clarksburg and other local officials and owners of The Canteen were on hand.

For those under the age of 45, they may not remember Clarksburg's older version of The Canteen. The business, located on Milford Street, was an iconic Clarksburg eatery open for decades and known for never closing. The lone exception in its decades of business was during the 1985 floods.

The business was also known for having delivery service and a drive-through prior to just about anyone else. It also was known for its Giovanni sandwich, Monster Milkshakes, West Virginia Grilled Hot Dogs, and many other items.

According to the owners of the business, Walt Foster and Jared Spraggins, the concept is more closely related to a Five Guys with a feature on hamburgers - smashburgers in their case. However, as an homage to The Canteen, they will have a Smashburger Giovanni.

The hours Sunday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The business can be reached by calling 304-969-9005.
