Editor's Note: The Hive Entertainment Zone at Meadowbrook Mall in Bridgeport held a ribbon cutting this morning, officially opening the state's largest trampoline park. The event was facilitated by the Harrison County Chamber of Commerce. The business owners and operators, mall officials, and city officials were in attendance. Below, see Jeff Toquinto's story which ran here on Connect-Bridgeport earlier this week. Also see a photo gallery of additional photos from today and some featuring local children enjoying the facility.
Original story: During Tuesday morning's Bridgeport Development Authority meeting, Community Development Director Andrea Kerr let out a secret that many already know about.
The Hive Entertainment Zone, the new trampoline park facility at the Meadowbrook Mall, has been operating on a soft opening for the past several days. The soft opening comes ahead of the ribbon cutting event scheduled for Friday.
“This is a big deal for the city, the mall and the region,” said Bridgeport Community Development Director Andrea Kerr.
Early this afternoon, the Meadowbrook Mall sent out a notice that The Hive Entertainment Zone will open its doors this Friday, Jan. 24, at 10 a.m. However, as noted, the city announced – as has The Hive’s Facebook page – that is has been in a soft opening for several days.
Mall officials from the Cafaro Company, which is the mall’s owner, say it is the largest trampoline park in West Virginia. They go a step further saying it is possibly the largest in the Mid-Atlantic region. The square footage of the facility is in the range of 53,500.
It is located in the former Elder-Beerman Home Store near Cinemark. The permit for the project, which does not include the equipment, was $600,000 for the buildout and demolition. In June of last year, the individuals involved in the project – Brandon Critchfield, Josten Mengerink, and Tom Cohen – said the initial investment would be $1.8 million.
Along with the trampoline park, The Hive will open with several other attractions, including large party area, redemption arcade, traverse climbing wall and much more.
Work on the facility began in August. The only downside was the inability to open prior to the holidays, but they are now ringing in the New Year with the facility in operation.
According to Cafaro officials. some of the attractions to open inside the facility are a 2,300 square foot multi-purpose sport court, a 3,000 square foot arcade, a 4,500 square foot laser tag arena, a traverse climbing wall, interactive AeroStrike game, and a large, designated area for birthday parties and large events.
Different attractions will be geared towards kids of all ages, including the 3,000 square foot inflatable area and the 3,000 square foot, three-tiered soft play area for children ages 5 and under. The park features over 5,000 square feet of toddler attraction space, which includes 500 square feet for kids aged 1-3 years old. The Hive will also feature the Honeycomb Café, where there will be a multitude of quick service food and drink offerings.
