State Police Investigating Discovery of Body in Region

On Sunday, October 5, 2025, Troopers from the Sutton Detachment of the West Virginia State Police responded to a rural area near Shiloh Church in Braxton County after fishermen reported discovering what appeared to be human remains in the Elk River.
With assistance from the Sutton Volunteer Fire Department, the remains were recovered and subsequently confirmed to be those of an adult male.
The remains were transported to the West Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, which took place on Monday, October 6, 2025. The investigation remains ongoing, with efforts currently focused on the positive identification of the victim.
