The Grapevine: A Poem for Christmas

By Rosalyn Queen on December 22, 2015 from The Grapevine

This is the week of Christmas.  This is an opportunity for all of us to focus on the real reasons we celebrate Christmas.  For this week's column, I'd like to share this poem by M.S. Lowndes.  It's called "The True Meaning of Christmas".

Jesus Christ was born this day
So many years before
He came a servant to the lost
Though he was Lord of Lords.

We celebrate this joyous time
Reflecting on his birth
Not born in a mansion, but a stable
As if he had no worth.

For this is the only reason, that we
Should celebrate this day
To become focused on anything else
Would take the meaning away.

So let’s come with joy with joy in our hearts
And share it with everyone
The  meaning of Christmas will always be
The birth of Jesus - God's Son.

I think that is such a beautiful poem.  It reminds us of the reason we celebrate Christmas.

My personal prayer this holy season:

Father in Heaven, I think about my entire family and all my friends, people who I interact with every day.  Let me remember each of their stories.  Take away my feelings of fear and anxiety.  Thank you for filling my life with these loved ones.  Heal whatever comes between us during this season and throughout the year, and continue giving me strength to handle whatever you send my way. Keep your healing hand on my children, grandchildren and all my dear friends and let us celebrate the birthday of God's son.  Thank you.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from my home to yours, Once again, thank you for being so caring and considerate of me during this trying time.  Please keep in touch and until next year "Now You Have Heard It through the Grapevine."
