The Grapevine: Christmas Gatherings and Cancer Free

By Rosalyn Queen on December 15, 2015 from The Grapevine

The holiday season is in full swing in our area and I hope you are taking advantage of all the events that will surely put you in the spirit of Christmas.  This past weekend the Holly Ball was held and a full house attended.  Reports had it as one of the best yet and a lot of money was raised for the hospital. My daughter and son in law, Andy and Lisa Lang donated to the hospital cancer center in my honor and I thank them for this generous gift.  Although there was a great committee working on the Ball I especially want to thank Pam Fleese Preston for all she did.

This week also saw the annual Sons of Italy Christmas dinner and as usual it was great.  Performing Christmas music was the RCB Jazz band and a donation was made to them for their new uniform fund. Those in attendance keep getting older and older, I only wish we could attract a younger membership. Becky Sprout is the president and she does a great job leading the group.  I urge you to consider joining this group.

My neighbor, Jo Ellen Crowley had a lovely Christmas party on Sunday and as usual the food was magnificent.  I love attending these get-togethers and having the opportunity to meet new friends and reconnect with old ones. This is what this time of year is for.

I am being very careful about mixing in large groups as I do not want to catch a cold but it is very disappointing not to be able to attend these holiday functions.  But I will make up for it next year!

I have attained one goal in my mission to become cancer free and that was taking my last radiation treatment.  I will certainly miss all those wonderful people who nursed me during that six week period.  It was hard for me to say thank you and goodbye but I did that this past Friday.  And this morning for the first time in six weeks we did not have to get up and be out of the house before eight o'clock.  I will be continuing with the chemo every three weeks and guess what; I am getting a little hair back.  But I have become so accustomed to
wearing hats that I just might continue even when the hair is back.  I have a wonderful collection thanks to the staff and all those wonderful workers at United Hospital Center and all my friends. I think I will be a gray headed women from here on in and it is not coming back curly.

Christmas is less than two weeks away and I hope you are not getting hung up on all the gift buying and decorations.  What is done is done and now is the time to enjoy the season and your friends.  Stock your cupboards with snacks and good nutritious drinks.  If you have baked, set out a plate of goodies and take the time to enjoy your family and friends. The greatest gift of all is being with my family and friends over a fresh cup of coffee and a piece of pita piata.

We have one more birthday to celebrate this month and that is the 21st birthday of Miranda. It is impossible to think that she is that old and a junior in college. After birthdays we can continue to celebrate the holidays.

Take care, keep in touch and until next week" Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine."
