FRIENDS ---- Have you ever given much thought to what friends are? Who they are in your life and just what they mean?
We have family and many of us will call our family members friends as well as family. But no matter what happens our family will always be there. No matter how hard we may try, they are still family. I can remember well my mother saying "remember blood is thicker than water."
And now back to friends. Throughout our life, many people will come and go. Each time they may have a specific or different influence at the time they are here, but then when they go they are done. When true relationships are made with friends, no matter how long ago, they remain friends. Some of our friends have been constant throughout our lives, maybe from school time or through our professional life.
I think throughout my whole life I have always wanted to be a friend to everyone I met and I wanted everyone to like me. This just cannot happen in the real world.
When my friend Shookie left my life when we were younger and then she returned several years ago it was like we had never been apart. My friend Becky came into my life in school and no matter how long it might be between visits, we seem to pick up just where we left off. My friend Veronica does not get mad if I do not want to talk when she calls, she just calls back. It seems a true friend shows up just when you need them. Be assured that you can truly make a new friend at any time in your life. What would I do without the friendship of JoEllen?
Sometimes we make the mistake of thinking someone is a true friend and it turns out they are not. Sometimes we have to be better judges of who friends are and who are just acquaintances. I urge you to devote time to being a true friend. It takes a lot of work, but you will never be sorry. As we get older we realize the worth of a true friend. Over the last couple of months I have truly been able to learn what a true friend is and how important they are in my life. I pledge to be a better friend and to work on being there for my friends. Try to do the same. Renew those friendships and be a good judge of those true friends and those who are just acquaintances. Both are an important part of our life but that true friend is wonderful and if you are lucky enough to have a few, you are lucky. A big thank you to all my friends who have taken the time to pray for me, send me flowers, food, cards or just to call me.
November is here. It seems time is flying for me, but when I think of Marty I know time is not flying for him. 3/16 is a release date for him. He was reminded recently to read John 3/16 and he did. It restored his faith as we all wait for that magic date.
November is National Peanut Butter, Pepper and Pecan Month. I love all three but I guess I just could not live without peppers. Peppers are native to America. They were brought back to Spain after the Spaniards travels to the new world. Many of us think that the seeds are the hottest part of the pepper, but this is not true. It is the point where the seeds attach to the white membrane. Hot pepper sting is best neutralized by milk.
November 11 is Veterans' Day and soon after that will be Thanksgiving. Plan some type of family activity for both of these holidays.
The PWA will be having a soup luncheon on two Fridays in November. Be sure to watch in the Calendar of Events. Due to the wonderful success of the free Day Camp, The PWA will once again be holding another in December. If you have a middle school girl contact the PWA to enroll them. This year they will also be having one of those wonderful Holiday Teas with wonderful food and entertainment. Call 304 624 6881 for more information. Keep in touch with me.
I love hearing from you and until next week "Now You Have Heard It through the Grapevine."
