PICNICS, SWIMMING POOLS. BOATING,OUTDOOR CONCERTS AND FIREWORKS. These events confirm that the Fourth of July is here. We are really into the heat of summer. This is what we have all been waiting for during those long cold, snowy winter days. But have you asked yourself what this is all about.
The Fourth of July or Independence Day is really the birthday of the United States. This is when our forefathers gathered and signed the Constitution for what would be the greatest nation on earth. It marked the beginning of a long fight for our freedom. And even today it continues.
Have you ever taken a minute to think of all the lives that have been taken for our independence and freedom? Have you ever counted or even thought about all the heartache families have suffered so that today we still enjoy these freedoms. Is our freedom to worship, our freedom to bear arms. our freedom to elect our own leaders and the many other freedoms we enjoy really worth these sacrifices? Many of us would say…..YES!
It is astonishing if you really think about this. With all the quirks, our system still works and is the best on earth.
We owe this independence to the many men and women who have and continue to fight for the United States and to the many leaders who continue to run our country. As you sit in the dark this Fourth of July with your family and those you love to watch the beautiful displays of fireworks, take one quiet moment to thank all those who continue to fight for our freedoms. Sometime this summer, plan a trip to Washington D. C to visit Arlington Cemetery, the Vietnam War Memorial as well as all the other Memorials. Washington is a wonderful place with history abound and tributes to the veterans who fought to protect our country.
Have a safe Fourth and whether at home or away be careful and until next week "Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.
